Question : DECLINE IN FERTILITY



(a) whether as per the report of the scientific researches conducted for the fertility of land is going down day by day due to the use of chemical fertilizers;

(b) if so, the steps likely to be taken by the Government to deal with the situation;

(c) whether the Government propose to promote the use of traditional Indian compost in place of the chemical fertilizers; and

(d) if so, the effective steps taken/likely to be taken by the Government to promote the use of the compost?

(a) & (b): There is no scientific evidence to suggest that fertility of land has declined due to use of chemical fersities. For sustained crop productivity soil test based balanced and integrated nutrient management using both inorganic and organic sources of plant nutrients is recommended.

(c) & (d): To achieve the targeted production levels conjunctive use of chemical fertilizers and organics is being advocated through front-line demonstration programmes.
