Question : NATURAL GAS ESTIMATED AT BARMER AND JAISALMER IN RAJASTHAN



(a) the total reserves of Natural Gas estimated in Rajasthan especially in Barmer and Jaisalmer districts, by the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation/ Shell India;

(b) whether time bound exploration of Gas is not being done by Oil and Natural Gas Corporation/ Shell India in the Western Rajasthan; and

(c) if so, the system of monitoring activities of the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation/Shell India in the State?

(a) The ultimate reserves of gas have been estimated as 1.41 billion cubic metres as on 1.4.99 by Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) in respect of their gas fields in Jaisalmer basin of Rajasthan.
Shell India Production Development, B.V. Netherland (SIPD) have made no estimates so far, for gas reserves in Rajasthan Production Sharing Contract area
(b) ONGC are continuing their exploration activities in Western Rajasthan and have plan to acquire 1750 GLK of 2D seismic data and to drill 5 exploratory wells during the IXth Plan.
The exploration plan for oil and gas is being executed by M/s. SIPD as per their contractual obligation under Production Sharing Contract (PSC)
(c) The performance of ONGC including progress of their exploration activities is monitored quarterly. The activities of M/s. SIPD are also monitored through Management Committees as per provisions of PSC.
