Question : Traffic Congestion at Border Check Posts

(a) whether the Government proposes setting up a task force, to ensure seamless movement of freight across the country and reduce losses to the economy, due to frequent stoppages;

(b) whether the Government plans to install Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) tags on vehicles for checking the identity of vehicles, and to reduce physical checks and eliminate checkposts;

(c) whether the Government plans to do away with physical checks at border posts on some vital freight routes and instead rely on flying squads;

(d) if so, the details thereof; and

(e) if not, the reasons therefor?

(a) No, Madam.

(b) Government of India has rolled out a cashless payment mechanism (FASTag) by implementation of Radio Frequency Identification (RFID)-based Electronic Fee Collection system on pan India basis w.e.f. 25.04.2016. The initiative provides seamless travel through the fee plazas on National Highways and convenience of cashless payment of user fee.

(c) to (e) The Government of India has no proposal to do away with physical checks at border posts on highways. Border check posts come under the control of State Governments hence, they have to take appropriate action for seamless movement of trucks at border check posts.
