Question : FORESTRY CLEARANCE FOR HIGHWAY IN PUNJAB



(a) whether a proposal was sent by the Government of Punjab for removing/cutting of trees for upgradation of Balachaur-Hoshiarpur-Dasuya highway for environmental clearance;

(b) if so, the details thereof and since when the request is pending; and

(c) the time by which the clearance is likely to be accorded?

(a) to (c) No, Sir, no such proposal for environmental clearance has been received. However, the proposal for diversion of 72.67 ha of forest land for Balachaur-Garhshankar-Hoshiarpur-Dasuya Highway, under Forest (Conservation) Act, 1980, involving felling of about 17,243 trees and 8,135 under sized poles of various species, was received. Final approval for diversion of 56.1732 ha of forest land for the above project has been granted on 28.11.2005.
