Question : Introduction of New Courses by IGNCA

(a) whether modern management technique and professional approach are lacking in the art management field in the country;

(b) if so, the details thereof and the reasons for the same;

(c) whether the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA) has decided to introduce five diploma courses and six new Certificate Courses in art and culture and related subjects;

(d) if so, the time by which these courses are likely to be started; and

(e) the other steps taken/being taken by the Government to develop nature trained manpower in the art and cultural fields in the country?

(a)&(b): The activities of Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA) through its various extensive research, documentation and dissemination to contextualize the art in their holistic interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary perspective have adopted modern management techniques and approach in the art management field.

(c)&(d): The Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts has introduced the following five Post Graduate Diploma courses of one year duration each:-

1. Cultural Informatics
2. Preventive Conservation
3. Buddhist Studies
4. Digital Library & Data Management
5. Manuscriptology & Paleography

In addition to the above, the following six Certificate courses of three to four months’ duration are also planned shortly for this year:-

(i) Open Access for Library and Information Science Professionals
(ii) Open Access for Researchers
(iii) Digital Library and Information Management
(iv) Research Methodology
(v) Cinema Studies and Cultural Documentation
(vi) Indian knowledge tradition.

(e): The IGNCA is conducting a few short term courses and training programmes to nurture trained manpower.
