Question : Assistance to Artisans for Construction of Worksheds

(a) whether the Ministry provides financial assistance to artisans to construct workshed and if so, the details thereof;

(b) the number of Khadi and other artisans benefited under the workshed scheme in Andhra Pradesh during each of the last four years and the current year;

(c) the total number of Khadi artisans who were provided assistance for construction of worksheds in the States of Assam and Gujarat under the workshed scheme for Khadi artisans during the last five years;

(d) the details of the steps being taken by the Government to promote Khadi products and their sale; and

(e) the details of production and sale of Khadi products in the Country, State-wise?

(a): Yes Sir. Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) through Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) extends financial assistance to Khadi Institutions for construction of Worksheds to Khadi artisans under “Workshed Scheme for Khadi Artisans”. The Scheme introduced in 2008-09 envisages providing sufficient space and congenial environment to artisans for smooth and fatigue free working leading to enhanced production and increased earning. The scheme is demand driven. The pattern of assistance under the scheme is as follows:

Construction of Individual Workshed 20 Sq. mtrs. Rs. 60,000/- or 75% of the cost of workshed (90% for NER), whichever is less.
Construction of Group Workshed (Min. 5 & Max. 15 artisans) 10 Sq. mtrs. per artisan Rs. 40,000/- per artisan or 75% of the cost of workshed (90% for NER), whichever is less.

(b): Number of Khadi Artisans benefitted under Workshed Scheme in the State of Andhra Pradesh during last four years and current year is as under:
