(a) whether the Government has any plan to set up sports academies in the country in collaboration with
the corporate sector;
(b) if so, the details thereof, State-wise;
(c) whether the Government has formulated any guidelines in this regard; and

(a) No, Madam. The Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports has no specific Scheme for setting up sports
academies in States. Since ‘Sports’ is in the State List of the Seventh Schedule of the Constitution of
India, primary responsibility for development and promotion of sports including establishment of sports
academies is that of State Governments. The Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports supplements the efforts
of the State Governments through its schemes like Panchayat Yuva Krida aur Khel Abhiyan (PYKKA) and Urban
Sports Infrastructure Scheme (USIS).
