(b) the details of coal import data for the last five years, grade-wise;
(c) whether the non-coking coal imports are increasing despite having large proven coal reserves and if so, the reasons therefor barring Covid-19 affected years; and
(d) the details including the number of private commercial coal mines operational in India and the output produced from such mines?

(c): As per the current import policy, coal is kept under Open General License (OGL) and consumers are free to import coal from the source of their choice as per their contractual prices on payment of applicable duty. Thermal power based on domestic coal may use imported coal up to 10% for blending with domestic coal, where technically feasible, to meet the increased power demand in the country. However, coal import (non-coking) for power sector from April to January was 58.093 Million Tonnes(MT), 39.013 MT and 22.730 MT in 2019-2020, 2020-2021 and 2021-2022 respectively.
