(a) whether the Steel Authority of India Limited have brought out a blue print for the growth beyond 2010;

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) whether the SAIL is considering to make acquisition of coking coal assets in Australia; and

(d) if so, the details thereof?

(a)to(d): A Statement is laid on the Table of the Lok Sabha.

STATEMENT REFERRED TO IN REPLY TO PARTS (A) TO (D) OF THE LOK SABHA STARRED QUESTION NO.16 TO BE ANSWERED ON 15th NOVEMBER, 2007 TABLED BY SHRI CHANDRA BHUSHAN SINGH, MEMBER OF PARLIAMENT REGARDING ACQUISITION OF COKING COAL ASSETS.

(a)&(b): The current expansion plans of SAIL now under implementation envisages enhanced annual production capacity of 26 million tonnes of hot metal by 2010. SAIL is also preparing a directional plan for growth beyond 2010, targeting an annual production capacity of 60 million tonnes per annum by the year 2020.

(c)&(d): SAIL is exploring possibilities of acquiring equity stakes in coking coal mines in countries like Australia. This is at a preliminary stage of discussions with various Australian companies.
