NO.16 TO BE ANSWERED ON 15th NOVEMBER, 2007 TABLED BY SHRI CHANDRA BHUSHAN SINGH,
MEMBER OF PARLIAMENT REGARDING ACQUISITION OF COKING COAL ASSETS.
(a)&(b): The current expansion plans of SAIL now under implementation envisages enhanced
annual production capacity of 26 million tonnes of hot metal by 2010. SAIL is also
preparing a directional plan for growth beyond 2010, targeting an annual production
capacity of 60 million tonnes per annum by the year 2020.
(c)&(d): SAIL is exploring possibilities of acquiring equity stakes in coking coal
mines in countries like Australia. This is at a preliminary stage of discussions with
various Australian companies.
