Question : Electrification of Railway Routes

(a)whether Railways has decided to electrify 24,400 kms of routes by 2020-21;

(b)whether in 2018-19, Railways earlier proposed to electrify 4,000 kms of routes but as per the revised target, Railways proposed to electrify 8,000 kms of routes;

(c)if so, the status of achieving the revised target, with particular reference to Andhra Pradesh (AP) and whether target in AP has been achieved;

(d)whether Railways has decided to scrap all its diesel loco projects; and

(e)if so, the details thereof and the reasons therefor?

(a)Ministry of Railways has planned to electrify balance 28,810Route Kilometers (as on 01.04.2019) of Broad Gauge (BG) routes of Indian Railways (IR) by December, 2023.
(b)& (c)No, Sir. The target for electrification of 6,000 Route Kilometer (RKM) of BG network was set for 2018-19,against which electrification of 5,276RKM were achieved. Railway Electrification projects are not confinedto State/Union Territories (UT). However, 249 RKM have been electrified in various lines falling in the State of Andhra Pradesh.
(d) & (e) No, Sir. Indian Railways have stopped manufacturing diesel locomotives for its own use at Diesel Locomotive Works (DLW), Varanasi and Diesel Loco Modernisation Works (DMW), Patiala. However, Diesel Locomotive Factory /Marhowra is manufacturing state of art emission compliant diesel locomotives which would in the long run serve the emergency and strategic needs of Indian Railways.
