Question : LOSSES IN KVIC



(a) whether the Khadi and Village Industries Commission has been suffering losses during the last three years;

(b) if so, the details thereof, year-wise;

(c) the steps taken/proposed to be taken by the Government to revive these units;

(d) the action taken against the persons responsible for the losses;

(e) the financial assistance provided to the said Commission by the Government during the last three years, year-wise;

(f) whether the assistance given was properly utilised; and (g) if so, the Commission`s turnover in terms of value during each of the above said years?

(a): No, Sir. The Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) is not a commercial organization. However, in the course of its promotional activities, the KVIC is undertaking some trading activities for the marketing of Khadi and Village Industries products. The losses incurred in the Trading operations for the last 3 years are given below :_

1998-1999 Rs. 1.60 crores 1999-2000 Rs. 2.74 crores 2000-2001 Rs. 1.86 crores


(b) to (d): Does not arise.

(e): The funds released to the KVIC by the Government under various heads during the last three years is given at Annexure attached.

(f): The KVIC is implementing its schemes with the funds provided by the Government.

(g): The production and employment under KVI programme in the country during last three years is as under :-
