Question : CHILD LABOUR



(a) whether the Government have identified the number of child labourers in various States in the country, particularly in Jharkhand;

(b) if so, the details thereof, State-wise;

(c) whehter the North-Eastern States have submitted any action plan to eradicate child labour;

(d) if so, the details thereof; and

(e) the reaction of the Government thereto?

v (a) & (b): Authentic information on child labour is generated during the decennial census. As per the 1991 census, the total number of working children in the country is 11.28 million. State-wise number of working children in the country is Annexed. Jharkhand is a newly formed state and the figures on child labour as per the 2001 census are yet to be published.

(c): No action plan has been received from the North-Eastern States for the eradication of child labour.

(d) to (e): In view of (c) above, does not arise.
