Question : POLLUTION DUE TO DIESEL



(a) whether the pollution caused due to the presence of suspended particles in diesel is dangerous;

(b) if so, whether Euro-I and Euro-II norms have been laid down for automobiles;

(c) if so, the details thereof;

(d) whether any emission norms for tractors have also been laid down;

(e) if so, the details thereof; and

(f) if not the reasons therefore?

(a) Yes Sir.

(b)&(c) EURO-I norms have been brought into force w.e.f. 01.04.2000 throughout the country for all categories of vehicles. Bharat Stage_II norms (equivalent to EURO-II) for motor cars and passenger vehicles upto 3,500 Kg GVW(Gross Vehicle Weight) have been brought into force in NCT of Delhi w.e.f. 01.04.2000 and will be further extended to city of Mumbai w.e.f. 01.01.2001 and the cities of Chennai & Kolkata w.e.f. 01.07.2001.

(d)to(f) Emission norms for tractors have also been laid down vide notification No.G.S.R.627(E) dated 08th September, 1999. A copy of the notification is at Annexure-I.
