Question : ISIS Activity in Neighbouring Countries

Will the Minister of EXTERNAL AFFAIRS be pleased to state:

(a) whether the Government has taken note of the growing incidents of terrorist activities supported by organisations like ISIS in the neighbouring countries;

(b) if so, the details thereof and the precautionary steps taken/being taken by the Government to ensure the safety and security of Indians living in these areas;

(c) the details of action taken by the Government to ensure safety of diplomats and institutions in terrorism affected countries;

(d) whether the Government has raised the matter with the concerned Governments; and

(e) if so, the details thereof?

THE MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF EXTERNAL AFFAIRS

(a) The Government of India is closely and regularly monitoring the activities of terrorist organisations, including ISIS, in the neighbouring countries.

(b) The Government of India is taking all precautionary measures to ensure the safety and security of Indian officials and Indian communities in the neighbouring countries. Whenever necessary, information affecting India''s security interests abroad is duly shared with concerned local government authorities. As per standard diplomatic norms and practices, also followed in other countries, the primary responsibility for ensuring the safety and security of Indian officials and institutions in these countries vests with the local government. Accordingly, regular channels of communication are being maintained with the governments of neighbouring countries.

(c) to (e) The Government is also regularly upgrading security arrangements at our Embassies and Consulates in close consultation and liaison with the concerned local government.
