Question : Setting up of AIIMS

Will the Minister of HEALTH AND FAMILY WELFARE be pleased to state:

(a) the number of AIIMS like institutions functional in the country, State/ UT-wise;

(b) the details of proposed AIIMS like institutions across the country and the time by which such proposed institutions are likely to be functional;

(c) the States/UTs which have sent proposals for setting up of new AIIMS like institutions in the country;

(d) the details of funds allocated for the same, State/UT-wise; and

(e) the criterion laid down for the approval and financial assistance provided by the Government for setting up of such institutions in different parts of the country?

ANSWER

(a): Six newly established AIIMSs at Patna (Bihar), Raipur (Chhattisgarh), Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh), Bhubaneshwar (Odisha), Jodhpur (Rajasthan) and Rishikesh (Uttarakhand) have already been made functional.

(b): An AIIMS at Rae Bareli is being set up under Phase-II of PMSSY. Thirteen more AIIMS have been announced to be set up in different states. Out of which, Cabinet has approved setting up of AIIMS in Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal, Maharashtra, Punjab, Gorakhpur and Assam. Details can be seen at Annexure-I.

(c): Proposals have been received from 17 States for setting up of new AIIMS like institutions. The details are enclosed in Annexure – II.

(d): Rs. 820 cr has been approved by Cabinet for each of the 6 functional AIIMS at Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Rajasthan and Uttarakhand. Details of funds for 14 proposed AIIMS are attached as Annexure-I.

(e): New AIIMS are announced in Budget speeches and are fully funded by the Central Government.
