(SHRI KAUSHAL KISHORE)
(a)& (b): No, Sir.
(c) Urban poverty is broadly contributed by migration in search of better living conditions from rural and smaller urban areas, in addition to issues intrinsic to the city. Issues that urban poor mainly encounter in the city are access to health, education, sanitation, skills and livelihoods.
Urban development, including urban poverty alleviation is a state subject. To complement the efforts of State/ UT governments, the Government of India is implementing various schemes to address these issues.
Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana - National Urban Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NULM) is being implemented to reduce poverty and vulnerability of urban poor households by enabling them to access gainful self-employment and skilled wage employment opportunities, in order to improve their livelihoods on a sustainable basis.
Government is also implementing PM Street Vendor''s AtmaNirbhar Nidhi (PM SVANidhi) Scheme to facilitate micro-credit to street vendors, vending in urban areas so that they can restart their business which were adversely affected during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Further, Government is implementing Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Urban (PMAY-U) to address urban housing shortage; Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) to provide basic services and build amenities in cities to improve the quality of life for all, especially the poor and the disadvantaged; Swachh Bharat Mission – Urban (SBM-U) for garbage free neighbourhoods; National Urban Health Mission(NUHM) to provide equitable and quality primary health care services to the urban population with special focus on the slums and vulnerable population; Skill India Mission for providing skill training in market relevant courses; Samagra Siksha Abhiyan (SSA) to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education, etc.
