STATEMENT REFERRED TO IN REPLY TO PARTS (a) TO (e) OF LOK SABHA STARRED QUESTION NO.276 FOR ANSWER ON 17-12-2008 ASKED BY SHRI CHANDRA BHUSHAN SINGH AND SHRI MAHAVIR BHAGORA REGARDING ACQUISITION OF LAND FOR NATIONAL HIGHWAYS.

(a) to (e) The Government of India is overall responsible for development and maintenance of National Highways. Various works relating to the National Highways are implemented through different agencies, such as State Governments, Border Roads Organisation and National Highways Authority of India(NHAI). These agencies are also responsible for acquisition of land for development of National Highways as per the requirements.

Information on the land acquired for construction and widening of the National Highways during the last three years and the current year, the amount of compensation released, area of land to be acquired for National Highway Projects, number of disputes and those settled till date, in respect of the projects being implemented by the State Governments is given in Annexure – I.

As regards projects implemented by National Highways Authority of India, the information is given in Annexure-II. Land Acquisition is a continuous process and efforts are made to expedite the same.

Information from some States/Union Territories, Border Roads Organisation is being collected and will be laid on the Table of the House.
