Question : MIGRATION OF INDIAN LABOURERS



(a): the number of Indian labourers working in the Gulf countries, Mauritius etc. at present, country-wise;

(b): the main reasons for the migration of Indian labourers to foreign countries;

(c): whether the Government is taking steps to check the migration of Indian labourers to foreign countries; and

(d): if so, the details thereof;

(a): An estimated 3.7 million Indians are working in the various countries of the Gulf. The number of Indians working Mauritius is not significant. A statement indicating the country-wise break-up is annexed.

(b): There are several reasons which include shortage of manpower in several foreign countries, better salaries and working and opportunities for savings abroad.

(c): No, Sir.

(d): Does not arise.
