(a) the total number of youth hostels functioning in the country, State/UT-wise including Maharashtra;
(b) whether the Government has received proposals from various States including Maharashtra to construct new youth hostel in the country; and
(c) if so, the details thereof, location and State/UT-wise along with the time by which such proposals are likely to be cleared?

(a) The details of Youth Hostels presently in the country including the State of Maharashtra is given at Annexure.
(b) & (c) Proposals to set up youth hostels are received from the State Governments from time to time. No proposal has been received recently from Govt. of Maharashtra to construct new Youth Hostel. On the advice of Planning Commission, a policy decision has been taken to complete the youth hostels under construction only and not to take up construction of new hostels.
