(a): State-wise details of production of major coarse cereals in the country during last three years and the current years i.e. 2011-12 to 2014-15 are given in the Annexure.

(b): In order to promote production of coarse cereals in the country during 2011-12 to 2013-14, Government of India implemented through State Governments the “Initiatives for Nutritional Security through Intensive Millets Promotion (INSIMP)” as a sub-scheme of Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana (RKVY) in the major millet growing States of the country. The programme aimed at demonstration of improved production and post- harvest technologies in an integrated manner with visible impact to catalyze increase in production of millets.

From 2014-15, the Government of India is implementing a Centrally Sponsored Scheme “National Food Security Mission (NFSM)-Coarse Cereals” which aims to increase production of coarse cereals in the country by 3 million tonnes by the end of 12th Plan period i.e. 2016-17. NFSM-Coarse Cereals is being implemented in 264 districts of 28 States. The scheme is focussed on organization of cluster demonstrations on improve package of technologies and distribution of quality seeds of new varieties/hybrids. Under the scheme, assistance is being provided at the rate of Rs.5000/- per hectare for demonstrations of improved packages of technologies, Rs.1500/- per quintal for distribution of seeds of high yielding varieties and Rs.5000/- per quintal for hybrid seeds.
