(a) whether the scientists have developed a compact and portable sensor that can detect explosives like DNT and TNT;
(b) if so, the details and the main features thereof;
(c) whether it is likely to help in detecting explosives at large scale used in terrorist activities;
(d) if so, the details thereof; and
(e) whether the Government proposes to use it in public places like airports, railway stations, shopping malls, etc. and if so, the details thereof?

(a) to (e):Yes, Sir. A compact and portable sensor for the detection of explosives like Di Nitro Toluene (DNT) and Tri Nitro Toluene (TNT) has been developed. It can detect bulk explosives in liquid, solid and powder forms used in terrorist activities. The system has been demonstrated to Security Agencies for exploring applications in various scenarios and Transfer of Technology (ToT) was awarded to Indian industries for productionisation.
