Question : Nilambur-Nanjangud Mysore Railway Project

(a) whether the Government is aware of the rising public demand for Nilambur – Nanjangud Mysore Railway Project under the Palakkad Division in Kerala;

(b) if so, whether any feasibility study has been conducted in this regard;

(c) whether the Government has any plans to implement the project within a specific time frame and if so, the details thereof;

(d) if not, the reasons therefor;

(e) whether the importance and necessity of a railway line in Feroke – Karippur – Palakkad route under the Palakkad Division in Kerala has come to the notice of the Government;

(f) if so, whether any feasibility study has been conducted regarding the same;

(g) whether the Government plans to start the work of the said railway line in the near future and if so, the details thereof; and

(h) if not, the reasons therefor?

(a) to (d) Survey for this line was conducted in 2013-14. The project was financially unviable and not taken forward. Further this project has been taken up by Kerala Rail Development Corporation Limited (KRDCL), a JV company of Government of Kerala (51%) and Ministry of Railways (49%) for development. Government of Karnataka has raised objection regarding the alignment through Karnataka. Government of Kerala is in discussion with Government of Karnataka for taking-up Detailed Survey work in the areas of Karnataka. Therefore, specific time frame for implement the project cannot be ascertained at this stage.


(e) to (h) Ferok is already connected to Palakkad via Shoranur on broad gauge double rail line. Presently, no other rail line from Ferok to Palakkad is under consideration as focus of Ministry of Railway is to complete already sanctioned ongoing new line projects.
