Question : Fire Incidents

Will the Minister of HEALTH AND FAMILY WELFARE be pleased to state:

(a) the number of patients died due to fire hazards in various hospitals in thecountry during the last three years and current year, State-wise;

(b) the number of hospitals in the country which have fulfilled the fire safety norms as per the National Accreditation Board for Hospitals and Health Care (NABH), State/UT-wise; and

(c) whether the Government is considering stringent punishment for violating fire-safety measures, if so, the details thereof?

(a) & (b): ‘Health’ being a state subject, such information is not maintained centrally.


However, as far as three Central Government Hospitals in Delhi i.e. Lady Hardinge Medical College & Associated Hospitals, Safdarjung Hospital and Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital, autonomous institutes like National Institute of Tuberculosis and Respiratory Diseases (NITRD), New Delhi, All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Jodhpur, AIIMS, Rishikesh, and Kasturba Health Society, Wardha are concerned, no incidence of death due to fire hazards has been reported during last three years and current year.


The number of hospitals in the country which have fulfilled the fire safety norms as per the National Accreditation Board for Hospitals and Healthcare providers (NABH), State/UT-wise is at annexure:

(c): Action for violation are required to be taken by the appropriate authority of concerned State/UTs. However, regular meetings by the Government with Central Government Hospitals to review their status for fire safety compliance are held from time to time.
