Question : Petroleum Reserves

(a) whether any new reservoirs of petroleum have been found in Rajasthan and Gujarat during the last five years, if so, the estimated capacity of these reservoirs;
(b) whether any new petroleum research work is going on in Rajasthan and Gujarat and if so, the details thereof and if not, the reasons therefor; and
(c) whether there is any possibility of the discovery of Petroleum and Natural Gas reserve in Kutch region, Porbandar region and in the sea in Gujarat State, if so, the details of further action in this regard?

(a) During the period from April, 2014 to November, 2019, 16 hydrocarbon discoveries under Production Sharing Contract regime and 6 hydrocarbon discoveries under Nomination regime have been notified in Gujarat, out of which 13 hydrocarbon discoveries having in-place volume of about 12.52 Million Metric Tonnes of Oil Equivalent (MMTOE) are under development / production. Four hydrocarbon discoveries are under appraisal and 05 hydrocarbon discoveries have been relinquished. In Rajasthan, 13 hydrocarbon discoveries have been notified which are under appraisal.
(b) Under Discovered Small Field Policy (DSF), 08 contract areas measuring 454.92 sq. km. in Gujarat and 03 contract areas measuring 96.70 sq. km. in Rajasthan have been awarded for exploration & production activities. Under Hydrocarbon Exploration and Licensing Policy (HELP), 16 exploration blocks measuring 12,191.48 sq. km area in Gujarat and 11 exploration blocks measuring 13,536.81 sq. km. area in Rajasthan have been awarded for exploration & production activities. In Gujarat, redevelopment of various nomination fields is going on.

(c) As per Hydrocarbon Resources Assessment study conducted in 2017, the estimated Hydrocarbon resources in Kutch and Saurashtra region of Gujarat are as under:-

Till date, 09 hydrocarbon discoveries have been notified in Kutch and Saurashtra region of Gujarat. Under DSF Policy, one block has been awarded in Kutch region. 06 blocks including 05 offshore blocks have been awarded under HELP in Kutch and Saurashtra region of Gujarat.
