Question : PROPOSALS FOR JAMMU AND KASHMIR FOR WELFARE OF FISHERMEN



(a) whether the Government proposes to effectively implement the National Scheme of Welfare of Fishermen (NSWF) in consultation with the State Governments to provide land and ensure construction of houses for fisherman in the country,particularly in Jammu and Kashmir;and

(b) the number of houses constructed under the NSWF Scheme in the country during the last three years, State-wise?

THE MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF AGRICULTURE(SHRI TASLIMUDDIN)

(a): Under the Development of Model Fishermen Villages component of `National Scheme of Welfare of Fishermen`, there is a provision for construction of houses for fishermen. The unit cost of a house is Rs.40,000 which is shared on 50:50 basis between the Centre & the States and in case of Union Territories, 100% cost is borne by the Centre. The Scheme is in operation in all the States including Jammu & Kashmir and Union Territories. Being a Centrally Sponsored Scheme, it is implemented by the State/UT Governments.

(b): State-wise number of houses constructed under the NSWF Scheme during the last three years in the country is given in the statement at Annexure.
