Question : WATERSHED SCHEME

(a) the number of villages likely to be included under Watershed Development Scheme during the current plan period, State-wise; and

(b) the funds likely to be allocated to various States for the purpose during the said plan?

Answer given by the minister

MINISTER OF STATE FOR RURAL DEVELOPMENT (SHRI A. RAJA )

(a) & (b): The Department of Land Resources is implementing Integrated Wastelands Development Programme, Drought Prone Areas Programme and Desert Development Programme under the Guidelines for Watershed Development. Under these programmes, watershed development projects are sanctioned to District Rural Development Agencies (DRDAs)/Zila Parishads (ZPs) depending upon the progress of ongoing projects and availability of wastelands. A watershed development project may cover areas of more than one village or parts thereof. Similarly a village may have more than one watershed projects. It is, therefore, difficult to specify the number of villages likely to be included under the Programmes. Under these programmes, no State-wise allocation is made as the programmes are demand driven.
