Question : Length of Gas Pipeline

(a) the total length in kilometers of gas pipeline being used in the country at present;
(b) whether the Government proposes to extend the length of gas pipeline in view of the rising demand of gas;
(c) if so, the details thereof and if not, the reasons therefor; and
(d) the details of the works related to gas pipeline at present?

(a) to (d) As on 31.12.2021, Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB) has authorized approximately 33,768 km Natural Gas Pipeline Network across the country with the aim to create a National Gas Grid and increase the availability of natural gas across the country. Out of this, 20,334 km of natural gas pipelines including spur lines are operational and a total of 15,194 km length of pipelines is under various stages of construction. The existing and upcoming pipelines will form a National Gas Grid in the country. In addition to this, as on 31.01.2022, a total of 3,52,961 Inch-kilometer of Steel and Medium-density polyethylene (MDPE) pipeline has been laid by the City Gas Distribution (CGD) entities across the country. Expansion of pipeline infrastructure is a continuous effort based on gas demand assessment of various regions.
