Answer given by the minister

MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF RAILWAYS ( SHRI BANDARU DATTATRAYA )

(a) to (e): A statement is attached.

STATEMENT REFERRED TO IN REPLY TO PARTS (a) to (e) OF UNSTARRED QUESTION NO.4804 BY SHRI K. H. MUNIYAPPA TO BE ANSWERED IN LOK SABHA ON 19.12.2002 REGARDING BIJAPUR-UGAR RAIL LINE

(a) to (c): No such survey work has been undertaken. However, a survey for a new BG line between Bijapur and Shedbal via Athani in the vicinity of the suggested line was conducted in 2000-2001. As per the results of the survey, cost of the 112.40 km. long line had been assessed as Rs. 213.85 cr at the then prevailing price level with a rate of return of 1.03%. In view of the grossly unremunerative nature of the project coupled with the severe resource constraints, the proposal could not be taken up for consideration. An expenditure of Rs. 5.40 lakh has been incurred on this survey.

(d): No, Sir.

(e): Does not arise.
