Answer given by the minister

THE MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF HEALTH AND FAMILY WELFARE (SHRI A. RAJA)

(a): The Medical Council of India and Dental Council of India has prescribed minimum standards of medical/dental education and all the medical/dental colleges in the country including self financing medical/dental colleges have to fulfill these norms. According to the respective professional Councils, the policy on allowing self financing medical/dental colleges has worked successfully. As regards Physiotherapy colleges, there is no such policy for setting up self financing Physiotherapy colleges with Central Government.

(b) to (d): Two proposals of Government of West Bengal for establishment of new medical colleges one each at Kolkatta and Midnapore, one proposal from Government of Maharasahtra for medical college at Akola and one proposal from Government of Chattisgarh for establishment of dental college at Raipur are pending with the Government/respective professional Councils. No time frame can be given as clearance of these proposals will depend upon fulfillment of qualifying criteria, the availability of infrastructural facilities and recommendations of the respective professional Councils.
