Question : Fee Charged by Institutions

(a) whether the Government has not framed any guidelines/rules with regard to the fees being charged by the private technical educational institutes in the country;

(b) if so, the details thereof; and

(c) the action taken by the Government to check the exploitation of students with regard to fees in such private technical educational institutes?

(a) & (b) : The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) had constituted a Committee under the Chairmanship of Justice Srikrishna (former Judge of Hon’ble Supreme Court) on 07.05.2014 to recommend the fee to be charged by the private technical educational institutes in the country. The Committee submitted its report on 07.04.2015. The AICTE Council approved the recommendations of the Committee in its Meeting held on 11.12.2015 and letters were sent to all State Govts. for implementation of the report vide AICTE letter No.3-16/PC / Fee Com./2014 dated 11.02.2016. The Committee recommended the maximum tuition and development fee to be charged by the institutions.

(c): As per the Approval Process Handbook of AICTE , any institution reported to be charging capitation fee, other than the tuition and development fees is liable for punitive action which includes withdrawal of approval.
