Question : Aligarh Muslim University

(a) the details of the Central Universities/institutions having minority status in the country, State/UT-wise;

(b) whether the Government provides any special funds to the Universities/institutions with minority status and if so, the details thereof;

(c) whether the Government provides funds to Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) and if so, the details thereof indicating the funds allocation and distribution to AMU during the last five years;

(d) whether AMU is implementing the reservation roaster in appointment in faculties and admissions to its various courses, if so, the details thereof and if not, the reasons therefor;

(e) the number of Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST) and Other Backward Classes (OBC) faculties recruited in AMU during the last five years and the students of these reserved categories got admissions to its various courses during the last three years; and

(f) whether the Government has received any complaints against AMU for not implementing the reservation roaster and if so, the details thereof along with the action taken/proposed to be taken by the Government in this regard?

(a) and (b) The issue of minority status of certain central institutions is sub-judice before the Supreme Court of India.

(c) The details of allocation and release of funds to AMU during the last five years are as given below:-

(d) and (e) The matter of implementation of reservation in the appointment of faculty and admission to various courses is sub-judice before the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India in the matter of AMU vs Dr. Naresh Agarwal and others (Civil Appeal No.2286 of 2006) where the Hon’ble Court has directed on 24.04.2006 to maintain the status quo. Hence the reservation roster could not be implemented in the University.
(f) The National Commission of Scheduled Castes had held a hearing in a complaint submitted to them. However, being a sub judice matter, no further action was taken by the Hon’ble Commission.
