Question : WAKF BOARD



(a) the names of States and Union Territories which are yet to constitute (i) State Wakf Boards and (ii) Wakf Tribunals under the Wakf Act, 1995;

(b) Whether Wakf surveys have been undertaken by the States and Union Territories;

(c) if so, the details of their progress;

(d) the number of Wakf tribunals set up by each State/Union Territory and the number of cases pending before each of them; and

(e) whether the Government have taken up with the States/Union Territories the questions of adequate number of Tribunals and the spread up of their locations in different regions of the States as per the requirement?

(a),(b),(c),(d)&(e) Following the enactment of the Wakf Act, 1995, the Union Government has requested the States/Union Territories to take appropriate action for implementation of various provisions of the Wakf Act, 1995 including constitution of State Wakf Board, appointment of Survey Commissioners, survey of Wakf properties and setting up of Tribunals. The matter is pursued with the States/Union Teritories from time to time.
The States/Union Territories of Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Karnataka, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Orissa, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Tripura, West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Dadra & Nagar Haveli, NCT of Delhi, Lakshadweep and Andaman & Nicobar Islands have reported constitution of State wakf Boards.
Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu have reported setting up of 4, 3 and 23 Tribunals respectively. Uttar Pradesh has set up Tribunals in all districts. Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Rajasthan, Delhi and Lakshadweep have also reported setting up Tribunals.
The States/Union Territories of Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Orissa, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Tripura, West Bengal, Dadra & Nagar Haveli and Delhi have reported survey of Wakf properties in various stages.
The details of number of cases pending before each Tribunal are maintained by the State Government/Union Territory Administration.
