Question : Development of Agriculture

(a) whether Agriculture Research Centres and Development Institutes are working for the development of agriculture sector in Maharashtra;

(b) if so, the details thereof, location-wise;

(c) whether the said agriculture research centres and development institutions have undertaken agriculture developmental works during the last three years along with the details thereof; and

(d) the extent to which growth in agricultural sector was achieved by the said developmental works?

(a) & (b): Yes, Sir. Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) has established 9 ICAR Research Institutes, 2 All India Coordinated Research Projects (AICRPs) and 49 Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs), coordinated by 1 Agriculture Technology Application Research Institute (ATARI) for Research and Extension for Agriculture Sector development in Maharashtra. The details are given in Annxure-1.

(c) & (d): The ICAR research Institutes/Centres, AICRPs and KVKs located in the State of Maharashtra are working for improving the production and productivity of agricultural crops/ commodities in the State. High yielding varieties and technologies developed by National Agricultural Research System under ICAR, besides enabling food and nutritional security of the country have also enabled the country to become net exporter in many agricultural commodities. Demonstrated production increases following the adoption of ICAR Technologies at farmers’ field in Maharashtra ranged between 6.72 to 67.65% in pulse crops; 13.80 to 39.49% in oilseed crops; 10.85 to 46.77% in cereal crops; and 10.62 to 30.44% in commercial crops during the last 3 years.
