Question : VEHICULAR POLLUTION



(a) whether the vehicular pollution is increasing in the country particularly in the big cities;

(b) if so, the steps taken to control the same so far;

(c) whether any action plan has been drawn up for the purpose; and

(d) if so, the details thereof?

(a): Yes, Sir. However, in case of Delhi, the Central Pollution Control Board has reported that air pollution level has decreased in 1998-99.
(b): The steps taken to control the vehicular pollution include notification of stringent emission norms, improvements in fuel quality and vehicle technology, phasing out of old commercial vehicles and promotion of use of clean fuel.
(c) &(d): Yes, Sir. Action plan has been drawn up for control of pollution in Delhi and Mumbai which includes control of pollution from vehicles.
