Question : POST OFFICES IN RAJASTHAN

(a) the number of post offices functioning in Rajasthan during the last one years, district-wise, category-wise;

(b) the number of post offices out of them functioning as on date and lying closed;

(c) whether the Government have received any representations to revive the closed post offices;

(d) if so, the time by which a final decision is likely to be taken in this regard ;

(e) the scheme formulated by the Government for the expansion of post offices/postal facilities in the State ;

(f) the number of post offices functioning in rented building at present and the number those against which eviction cases are going on the State during the last one year ; and
(g) the steps taken by the Government to provide buildings to the post offices in the State?

MINISTER OF STATE FOR COMMUNICATIONS (SHRI TAPAN SIKDAR)

(a) Total 10371 post offices functioning in Rajasthan as on 31-3-1999. District-wise category-wise details are given in Annexure `A`.

(b) Total number of post offices functioning as on date is 10369. Two post offices, namely Topdara Sub Office (Ajmer) and Bisalpur Dam Extra Departmental Sub Office (Tonk), have been closed.

(c) Yes, sir.

(d) No merit has been found to revive these closed post offices.

(e) Targets for opening of 27 new Branch Post Offices, 2 Sub Post Offices and 40 Panchayat Sanchar Sewa Kendras have been fixed for the year 1999 - 2000 for Rajasthan.

(f) 1200 post offices are functioning in rented buildings in Rajasthan. The landlords have filed civil suits for vacation of their buildings in 59 rental cases.


(g) Steps are being taken to construct departmental buildings as per plan projection outlay subject to the availability of funds.
