Question : EXTENSION OF TRAIN UPTO CHHAPRA JUNCTION



(a) whether despite the protest from the people of south the Ganga Kaveri Express plying between Varanasi and Chennai has been extended up to Chhapra junction;

(b) if so, the reasons for the extension of the said train;

(c) whether the Railways propose to withdraw this extension and restore the service of Ganga Kaveri Express from Chennai to Varanasi; and

(d) if so, the details thereof and if not, the reasons therefor?

(a) & (b) In order to meet the demand for a direct train between Chhapra and Chennai, 2669/2670 Ganga Kaveri Express has been extended to Chhapra.

(c) & (d) No, Sir. Considering the high occupancy figures of this train, it is not desirable, at present, to short terminate the train at Varanasi.
