(a) the number of functional check dams in the country at present, State-wise;
(b) whether the said dams are regularly cleaned and if so, the details thereof;
(c) the monitoring mechanism working for regular cleaning of these dams;
(d) whether it has been detected by the monitoring mechanism that regular cleaning of such dams has not taken place during the last three years and if so, the details thereof; and
(e) the action taken by the Government in this regard?

(a) to (e) The information relating to number of check dams, their functionality and their upkeep etc. is kept at the respective State level.
As per information received from M/o Rural Development, 585183 check dams have been built under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) since inception. State/UT- wise details are given at Annexure.
