Question : Allocation of Foodgrains During Pandemic

(a) whether the Government proposes to provide sufficient quantity of foodgrains to the States considering the Covid-19 pandemic;

(b) if so, the details thereof alongwith the quantity of foodgrains distributed to the State and UT’s in addition to the sanctioned quota, State/UT-wise;

(c) whether the Government proposes to distribute other essential commodities to the ration card holders through public distribution system considering the Covid19 pandemic;

(d) if so, the details thereof along with the number of PDS beneficiaries covered under the said scheme;

(e) whether the Union Government proposes to supply nutritious food to women and children through public distribution system considering the Covid-19, pandemic; and

(f) if so, the details thereof?

(a): In addition to foodgrains provided under NFSA @ highly subsidized rates of Rs 1/2/3 per kg for nutri-cereals/wheat/rice respectively to Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) households and priority households(PHH),under PMGKAY scheme, additional allocation of foodgrains @ 5 kg per person per month free of cost was made by Govt of India for all the beneficiaries covered under Targetted Public Distribution Systyem (Antyodaya Anna Yojna & Priority Households) including those covered under Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) for a period of 8 months i.e April-Nov, 2020. Further, under the Atma Nirbhar Bharat Package (ANBP), this Department had also allocated additional food-grain covering all the States/UTs for migrants/stranded migrants, who are neither covered under National Food Security Act (NFSA) nor State Scheme PDS Cards, @ 5 kg per person per month free of cost for a period of two months (May & June, 2020).

(b): Quantity of foodgrains allocated during 2020-21 to various States/UTs under PMGKAY and ANB are placed at Annexure-I.
(c): No Sir.
(d): Does not arise.
(e) and (f): No Sir, However, since 2019-20, a pilot project on supply of fortified rice under PDS in 15 States (one district per state) is operational.
