STATEMENT REFERRED TO IN REPLY TO PARTS (a) TO (e) OF UNSTARRED QUESTION NO. 3370 BY SHRI SUMAN BALKA AND SHRIMATI VASANTHI M. TO BE ANSWERED IN LOK SABHA ON 10.08.2015 REGARDING FIRE FIGHTING EQUIPMENTS IN TRAINS
(a): No, Madam. Railways do not have any plans to set up fire service stations equipped with trained fire fighting officials along with modern technology at each Railway station. However, at all Railway stations Dry Chemical type portable Fire Extinguishers, sand buckets and water buckets are provided for fire fighting. On need, local fire services personnel are requested for fire fighting.
(b) & (c): All the passenger carrying trains are being provided with Dry Chemical type portable Fire Extinguishers (gas cartridge Type) as per Bureau of Indian Standard specification. In passenger trains, two nos. portable fire extinguishers are made available in each Air conditioned coach, two nos. in each Second class luggage cum guard van type coach, four nos. in each pantry car and four nos. in each Train locomotive.
(d): Does not arise.
(e): The funds spent for the said purpose during the 11th and 12th Plan period are around 12 crores.
