Question : INTEREST SUBSIDY ON EDUCATION LOAN



(a) the number of students, State-wise benefited from interest subsidy on education loan of Central scheme during the year 2009-10 and the names of banks to which the amount of interest subsidy provided;

(b) whether the Government proposes to provide some percent of subsidy on the principal amount of loan received by the girl students for technical and vocational education; and

(c) if so, the details thereof and if not, the reasons therefor?

(a): As per the information received from Canara Bank, the Nodal Bank for implementing the Central Sector Scheme of Interest Subsidy on Education Loan, the State- wise list of claims submitted by banks and the names of the banks who submitted claims for 2009-10 in respect of the accounts of the students and the amount thereof are given in Annexure-I and Annexure-II respectively.

(b) & (c): The Scheme is based on income criteria. All students including girls belonging to economically weaker sections with parental family income from all sources, less than Rs. 4.5 lakh annually are eligible for interest subsidy on education loans obtained under Educational Loan Scheme of Indian Banks` Association (IBA).
