Question : Tourism Projects for Maharashtra

(a) the details of the projects for development of tourism approved, sanctioned and executed in Maharashtra during the last two years including the current year;
(b) the details of the Tourism Projects completed so far and the time by which the remaining projects are likely to be completed;
(c) the reasons for the delay in completion of the pending projects;
(d) the details of funds allocated, released and utilised for the development of tourism sector in the State during the said period, year-wise; and
(e) whether the State Government of Maharashtra has submitted any proposal to the Government and if so, the details thereof along with the present status of ongoing projects in the State of Maharashtra?

(a) to (e): Development and promotion of Tourism is primarily the responsibility of the State Government / Union Territory
Administration. However, the Ministry of Tourism under its schemes of ‘Swadesh Darshan’ and ‘National Mission on Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and Spiritual, Heritage Augmentation Drive (PRASHAD)’ provides financial assistance to State Governments/ Union Territory (UT) Administrations/Central Agencies for development of tourism infrastructure in the country. The projects are sanctioned subject to availability of funds, submission of
suitable Detailed Project Reports, adherence to scheme guidelines and utilization of funds released earlier etc.

The projects sanctioned in Maharashtra are at various stages of implementation/ completion.

The Ministry of Tourism has informed all the State Governments including Maharashtra that the proposals submitted by them for consideration under Swadesh Darshan scheme are deemed to be returned since the scheme is being reviewed.

The details of the projects sanctioned, amount released and amount utilized till date under ‘Swadesh Darshan’ and ‘PRASHAD’ schemes to Maharashtra are annexed.
