Question : MID DAY MEAL SCHEME IN PRIVATE SCHOOLS



(a) whether the temporary/regular recognised private schools do have not access to ‘mid-day-meal’ provided by the Government;

(b) if so, the reasons therefor;

(c) whether the Government is contemplating to provide mid- day-meal to the children studying in private schools in future;

(d) if so, the details thereof; and

(e) if not, the reasons therefor?

(a) & (b): No,Sir.At present, the Mid Day Meal Scheme (MDMS) covers children studying in classes of I-VIII in Government (including Local Body), Government-aided schools, Centres run under Education Guarantee Scheme(EGS)/ Alternative & Innovative Education(AIE) including Madarsas/Maqtabs supported under the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan(SSA).

(c), (d) & (e): The Government has constituted a National Level Committee to examine extension of Mid Day Meal Scheme to cover students studying in privately managed unaided schools in Tribal areas including unaided minority institutions.
