MINISTER OF THE STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF AGRICULTURE AND FOOD PROCESSING INDUSTRIES (DR. CHARAN DAS MAHANT)

(a) to (c) As per the distribution of legislative powers between the Union and States, the preservation of cattle is a matter on which the State Legislatures have exclusive power to legislate (Entry 15 of the List II of 7th Schedule of the Constitution). Therefore it is up to the States to enact laws on this subject. The list of the States which have already imposed ban on cow slaughter is annexed.
