Question : Seaweed Parks in Coastal States

Will the Minister of FISHERIES, ANIMAL HUSBANDRY AND DAIRYING ??????????, ??????? ?? ????? ?????? be pleased to state:

(a) whether the Government has taken initiative to develop Seaweed Parks in the Coastal States;

(b) if so, the details and the salient features thereof, State-wise;

(c) the details of the investment proposed for establishment of seaweed park, State-wise including Maharashtra and Odisha; and

(d) the other steps taken by the Government for the development of fisheries sector in the country?

(a) to (c) The Department of Fisheries, Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Government of India has been focusing on progressive growth of the Seaweed sector in the country. Under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY) which is being implemented w.e.f. FY 2020-21, financial assistance for seaweed cultivation is provided for development and promotion of seaweed cultivation including establishment of seaweed parks. Projects with total cost of Rs. 6266.805 lakh under PMMSY have been approved and central share released to various States/Union Territories and R&D institutions for activities related to seaweed cultivation. A proposal for establishment of Multipurpose Seaweed Park has been received from the State Government of Tamil Nadu at an estimated cost of 296.43 crores under the PMMSY. However, no proposal has been received regarding establishment of Seaweed Park from the State Governments of Maharashtra and Odisha.
(d) The Department of Fisheries, Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Government of India, with highest ever estimated investment of Rs. 20,050 crore in fisheries sector is implementing its flagship scheme namely, ‘Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana’ (PMMSY) for a period of five years from 2020-21 to 2024-25 in all States and UTs. In addition, for creation and strengthening of fisheries infrastructure, Department of Fisheries, Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying in the year 2018-19, created a dedicated fund namely, the Fisheries and Aquaculture Infrastructure Development Fund (FIDF) of Rs. 7522.48 crore to provide concessional finance to eligible entities such as State/UT Governments as well as private individual entrepreneurs. The Government of India has also extended the facility of Kisan Credit Card (KCC) for fishers and fish farmers.
