Question : Software Technology Parks

Will the Minister of ELECTRONICS AND INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY be pleased to state:

(a) whether the Government is pursuing a scheme of establishing Software Technology Parks (STP) across India through the Software Technology Park of India (STPI) and if so, the details thereof;
(b) whether software export parks will play a critical role in the vision to become a software export oriented nation and if so, the details thereof;
(c) whether the Government intends to target specific areas to develop them as model software export hubs in the country and if so, the details thereof;
(d) the details of operational STPs, State/UT-wise;
(e) the proposal under consideration of the Government regarding establishment of such parks across the country, State/UT-wise; and
(f) whether the Government has any plans to set up STPs in Maharashtra and if so, the details thereof; district-wise?

Answer given by the minister

a): Software Technology Parks of India (STPI), an autonomous society under Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology is the implementing agency for Software Technology Parks (STP) Scheme, which is a 100% export-oriented scheme for the development and export of computer software using data communication links or physical media, including export of professional services. Currently, 4186 export oriented IT/ ITeS units are registered with STPI across the country.

(b): The exports from the IT/ ITeS industry which is being witnessed by the country today, is mainly due to successful administration of the Software Technology Park (STP) Scheme during the last three decades. The exports made by the STP units in the FY 2018-19 stands at Rs. 4.21 lakh crore which is about 45 % of the total IT/ ITeS exports from the country in FY 2018-19.

(c): Software Technology Parks of India (STPI) has established its 60 centres across India, out of which 52 are in Tier-II/ Tier-III cities. Further, 23 new STPI centres have been approved by the Government in Tier-II/ Tier-III cities with the intention to disperse IT/ ITeS industry beyond Tier-I locations.

(d): The State-wise list of operational STPI centres is at Annexure-I.
(e): The State-wise list of approved STPI Centres is at Annexure II.

(f): Six STPI centres are operational in Maharashtra at Pune, Navi Mumbai, Nagpur, Nashik, Aurangabad and Kolhapur. However, currently, there is no proposal under consideration of the Government to set-up new STPI Centres in Maharashtra.
