Question : REQUESTS FOR RAILWAY LINES



(a) whether the Railways propose to consider the requests of the State Governments for laying of new railway lines if the land is provided to the Railways free of cost; and

(b) if so, the details of such proposals and the action taken thereon by the Railways, State-wise?

(a) & (b): Yes, Madam. Railway may consider taking up new line projects if the concerned State Government agrees to share cost of the project and provide land free of cost. Five New Line projects namely Nadikude-Srikalahasti (309 Km), Tumkur-Chitradurg-Davangere (199.7 Km), Shimoga-Harihar (78.66 Km), Whitefield-Kolar (52.9 Km) & Ratlam-Dungarpur via Banswara (176.47 Km) have been taken up in 2011-12 in which the State Governments have agreed to provide land free of cost & share 50% of remaining cost of the project.
