(a) whether a large proportion of land in the cantonment areas is under occupation of the various State Governments and private sector companies;
(b) if so, the details thereof, State/UT-wise; and
(c) the corrective measures taken by the Government to reclaim such land?

(a)&(b): Out of about 1.57 lakh acres of Defence land situated inside Cantonments only 15.3856 acres of Defence land is under unauthorized occupation of State Governments and about 0.0079 acres of Defence land is under occupation of one Private Sector Company. State / UT-wise list is enclosed as Annexure-‘A’.
(c) Instructions have been issued from time to time for regularization of unauthorized occupation of Defence land by State Government authorities and removal of encroachments by private parties. While such cases have been taken up with the concerned State Governments for regularization of unauthorized occupations by way of transfer of equal value land in exchange, action for removal of encroachment by private sector company on Defence land has been initiated under the provisions of Public Premises (Eviction of unauthorized occupants) Act, 1971 and Cantonment Act, 2006.
