Question : Survey on Differently Abled Persons

(a) whether the Government is having any data on the number of Differently Abled Persons who are doing selling activities in running trains, buses and other public places;

(b) if so, the details thereof, State-wise particularly in Tamil Nadu

(c) whether these kinds of differently abled persons are identified as platform traders;

(d) if so, the details thereof; and

(e) if not, the reasons therefor?

(a) to (e) The Ministry has not conducted any survey on the number of persons with disabilities (PwDs) involved in selling activities in running trains, buses and other public places. Relief to the persons with disabilities is a State subject by virtue of Entry 9 of the Constitution of India. Management of public places and passenger bus transport also fall under the domain of State Governments
As regards railways, Ministry of Railways has informed that there are 81 catering/vending units on railway platforms which have been contracted to PwDs. State-wise breakup of these units is at Annexure.
