Question : ACQUIRING OF LAND BY KRC

(a) whether at the time of implementing project ‘Konkan Railways’ an assurance was given to those persons from whom lands were acquired for the project, to give employment or opportunity to set up stalls, shops in railway stations;

(b) if so, whether it has been implemented; and

(c) if not, the reasons therefor and the steps taken by the Government in this regard?

Answer given by the minister

MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF RAILWAYS ( SHRI R. VELU )

(a): No, Sir.

(b): Does not arise.

(c): Railway projects do not come under the category of construction of dams where whole of villages are displaced. Therefore, no employment to landlosers is provided as a matter of right. However, Konkan Railway on their own have tried to accommodate the interest of landlosers, even after paying all the legally due compensation and solatium amount. As a Konkan Railway Corporation Limited (KRCL) policy, priority is always given to the landlosers who have lost their land for Konkan Railway project so that one smember of the family is given a job and the same opportunity is given in allotment of stall etc. Thus any business opportunity at the stations is always offered first to the landlosers. Already 926 landlosers have been given jobs in Group `C` & `D` after due selection and 76 stalls/STD Booths/Mobile Trolleys/Milk Parlours, etc. have been given to the landlosers.
