Question : FLOOD CONTROL PROGRAMME



(a) the details of flood control programmes at present;

(b) the reasons for non-completion of these programmes as scheduled during the last five years;

(c) whether some State Governments are indifferent towards flood control inspite the availability of funds;

(d) if so, the details thereof; and

(e) the steps taken by the Government to complete the programmes on time?

(a) and (b) Flood Management being the State subject, investigations, planning and implementation of flood management scheme are within the purview of the State Government. Flood control schemes are planned by State Governments depending upon their priorities subject to availability of funds under the State sector.

However, Central Government also provides funds for execution of flood management schemes. The list of such ongoing Centrally Sponsored Schemes under execution and to be completed during 10th Five Year Plan is given at Annexure- 1. (c) and (d) No information has been received which indicates that state Governments are indifferent towards flood control.

(e) The implementation of the scheme is also monitored by the concerned Central agencies from time to time.
